Citywide Bicycle and Pedestrian Study

The purpose of this project is to develop a bicycle and pedestrian Master Plan for the City of St. Charles. The Master Plan will be a joint effort to improve walking and bicycling between the City of St. Charles Public Works Department, City of St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department and Trailnet.

The Plan will provide a blueprint for the development of pedestrian and bicycle improvements throughout the community, making it safer and easier to reach local destinations, including parks, schools, transit and commercial areas.

A planning team has identified and analyzed conditions for walking and bicycling, obtained residents’ input and made recommendations to create a more interconnected, safe, and convenient network of sidewalks, on-street bike facilities and street crossings. Trailnet assisted the City by compiling a survey and asking interested citizens for their input. Results from this survey will be available late summer 2016.

Since fall of 2015, the City of St. Charles has worked with Trailnet, a local nonprofit dedicated to improving walking and biking, to create a bicycle and pedestrian master plan. In order to illustrate street changes laid out in the plan, Trailnet and the City will hold a pop-up traffic calming demonstration from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21.
